Enjoy REAL Hospitality in Sterling &
Logan County
On your last family vacation, did you spend more time in
traffic than you did enjoying your destination? Did you pay more for parking
than you did for your plane tickets? Did you feel welcome? Did your last
vacation leave you searching for something different? How about a vacation that
has a little more history? A touch of genuine hospitality? Maybe just some real
relaxation? Welcome to Sterling and Logan County!
We know you will enjoy your time on the "High Plains" of
Eastern Colorado, where we enjoy the pleasures of a close-knit, small town
atmosphere coupled with many "big city" amenities. We hope you will enjoy our
fresh air, spectacular sunsets, and starry nights. While those things are enough
reason for many people to experience Logan County, Here are a few more things
you might want to enjoy while you are here!
- Stop and enjoy Bradford Rhea’s amazing "tree sculpture"
creations! Visit local favorites at Sterling Public Library or at NJC, then
stop in at Sterling and Merino High Schools to see our local mascots displayed
at their finest. You can now see bronze castings of the famous “Skygrazers” in
Columbine Park, and “Metamorphosis” at our visitor’s center. The community
has welcomed these additions whole-heartedly, and more outdoor bronzes are
slated to follow. With a little advanced planning you may even catch Brad in
his Main Street, Merino Studio where he does marvelous things with marble.
- Experience our heritage! Explore the ground south of
Atwood where the battle of Summit Springs was fought! Learn more about our
region at the Fleming Museum, and the Overland Trail Museum in Sterling, which
documents our society’s great migration west, and the way the early residents
of the American West lived.
- Stop and see us at the Chamber of Commerce! We proudly
occupy the beautifully restored historic Union Pacific Depot, located on the
corner of Front and Main streets. Visit us here, and then take a walk up our
beautiful Main Street. Enjoy the architecture and tree lined streets, visit
our unique downtown businesses, and take a look at our restored 1901 County
Court-House.
- Relax and enjoy numerous opportunities for experiencing
the great outdoors in Northeastern Colorado! You can enjoy a variety of
watersports and fishing at the North Sterling Reservoir, the Prewitt Reservoir
near Merino, or Jumbo Reservoir near Crook. There are also great opportunities
for hiking, biking, hunting, fishing, and otherwise enjoying yourself! You
might even consider a 40 minute side-trip over the Nebraska border, where you
can visit Cabala’s World Head Quarters in Sidney, Nebraska. Of course we
suggest coming back to Logan County to fully enjoy any equipment you might
purchase there! Be sure to check with us at the Chamber of Commerce for
information on hunting and hunting guides in NE Colorado!
- Wondering what to do with the kids? Sterling boasts
nearly a dozen city parks, Including the newest addition, Tolla Brown Skate
Park, offering roller hockey rinks and plenty of obstacles for boarders and
bladers of all ages. You will also find swimming facilities at the Sterling
Recreation Center or any of the reservoirs, a 4-plex movie theater, batting
cages, mini-golf, a roller skating rink, bike paths, walking trails, and the
educational opportunities available at the Overland Trail Museum. In the
summer months you can even see a movie at the drive-in theater!
- Keep in mind that Sterling has the pleasure of being
located on the Pawnee Pioneer Trails Scenic and Historic Byway. This marked
route makes a beautiful drive that allows you to experience the glory of
Pawnee National Grasslands, as well as the rich history of the communities in
the area. This trip, if you start and end in Sterling can take half a day,
just to drive. You may also feel the need to stop to watch wildlife, explore
the grasslands, or learn more about our history. Full Color Byway information
is available at the Chamber or the Tourism Information Center here in
Sterling. If this land and way of life particularly interests you,
arrangements can be made for you to fully experience life on the Wagon Train,
just as the pioneers pushing west did. Three or four-day camping excursions
are taken all summer!
We hope you enjoy your stay in our community. We can offer
you wonderful experiences in Shopping, Education, History, and the "Great
Outdoors," all while redefining the term "Hospitality!" Come and enjoy yourself
in Logan County Colorado. See "Where the Sky meets the Prairie!"
