Schaefer’s Precision Auto body & Frame: October Spotlight Business

Schaefer Precision Body & Frame selected as spotlight business of October

Small town doesn’t mean small time. It does, however, mean success is directly tied to customer service and standing behind your work.

In 1980, Mike Schaefer began repairing his own vehicles in part with the direction of his father. Schaefer said when he was in high school his dad told him “you wreck them, you fix them. We are not going to a body shop”. So, Schaefer started doing his own work.

More than 30 years since the beginning, the name Schaefer is now associated with a quality service, a fresh and welcoming office and exceptional service that gets attention for miles in every direction.

He worked on cars from his home south of Fleming in 1980, married his wife Denise, and then hired his first employee in 1982. Business continued until 1991 when fire claimed the business and the family had to make a decision. Do you rebuild, or relocate?

“What do we do now? We had to choose.” Denise said. “That is when we decided to take a leap of faith and relocate.”

The business was moved from the Fleming area to its current location at 440 E. Chestnut St., Sterling. They now employ 17 dedicated employees. Their son, Damon, and daughter-in-law, Ashley, work with them and share their philosophy that personal attention makes a difference.

Schaefer’s Precision and Frame, Inc. has experienced success directly linked to how they treat their customers. It is all about hard work and caring about the customer, Denise said.

“This is a small community,” she said. “We like the connection.”

She said customers appreciate the home town experience and Schaefer’s Precision Body and Frame wants to take care of each customer on an individual basis.”We want to meet their needs,” she said.

Some of the services offered by Schaefer’s Precision Body and Frame, Inc. include collision repair, glass repair/replacement, paintless dent removal, towing, local pickup and delivery. With the sophistication of automobiles these days, it takes a trained and educated staff, Mike said.

One of the benefits to their level of customer service is a positive relationship with insurance companies. This collaborative relationship requires the business to undergo specific procedural training, and streamlines the repair process.

With all that has been done, all the changes in their 30 years of business, the Schaefers haven’t forgotten how they got to be where they are. It is how they work with the customers, and the loyalty of those customers.

“We’re grateful to the community for their trust in us,” Denise Schaefer said.

Schaefer’s Precision Body and Frame, Inc., is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; no appointments necessary for estimates. Visit their website at for more information.
