Sunday June 23, 2013

A brand new triathlon held at North Sterling Reservoir, Tri on the Plains offers fun for the entire family! Swim in open water in a wakeless area of North Sterling Reservoir, Bike 15 miles over a rolling course completely on paved roads and enjoy a 5K run over the dam and back.  A Family/Open event takes place later in the morning, with distances that are perfect for first-timers and the kiddo’s.  Tri on the Plains will be limited to the first 300 entrants, and all proceeds will go to the Lions’ Club sight projects.

The Sterling Planning Commission would like to invite you to join us next Thursday, January 31st for the final public workshop of the Sterling Master Plan Update process.  This will be the last opportunity for you and your fellow community members to weigh in on how and where Sterling should grow in the future.

What:  Community Consensus Workshop

At this Workshop, the Planning Consultant Team will be presenting three land use alternatives that came out of the Growth Challenge Community Workshop that took place in December.  These land use alternatives offer different ways that the city can accommodate needed housing, employment, retail, industry, and infrastructure as Sterling’s population grows in the coming decades.  We will also present a “Business as Usual” alternative, which is a projection of how Sterling will grow if there is no plan to guide and shape future development.  The Planning Team will describe the impacts these alternatives will have on the city’s future, and ask those in attendance to evaluate which is the most appropriate growth scenario for the city.

As a key stakeholder in the Sterling community, we hope that you and your fellow business owners will attend the January 31st event to help provide insight on how these land use alternatives could impact existing and future businesses.  The results from the evening’s workshop will generate the final future land use plan, and will guide the goals, objectives and policies for the City.

To help get the word out about this important final workshop we have created flyers and “free admission” tickets that are being posted and handed out all around town.  If you are interested in having information available for your customers please contact Roger Hosea, chairman of the Sterling Planning Commission, and he will provide you with tickets and/or flyers.  His information is provided below:
